We've got a shorter week this week, thanks to the holiday on Thursday, and just kicking back on Friday. But that makes this week no less important.
In fact, today is a big Moral Monday. Perhaps you saw the video posted earlier from Reverend Barber, as plans move ahead to again go to Raleigh to protest the immoral conduct of our so-called leaders. The House is taking the whole week off (lazy chickens), but the Senate is due to be there, and thus Moral Monday Moves ahead! And this Monday has some extra punch to it, as today marks the first day that nearly 70,000 unemployed in our state start to feel the needlessly cruel sting of Pope's Puppet Pat's Power Play.
NC is making all kinds of national news for the refusal to accept Federal emergency unemployment benefits, in some grand standing of pretense to be responsible for the state while wrecking lives of citizens living in the state.
The New York times may as well relocate staff here to cover all the stuff they've been covering out of NC, including Moral Mondays and now this:
With any luck, we'll be hooking up again with protesters who are at Moral Monday today, and get a feel for what is happening there on the ground.
Last week was a stellar show with a lot of calls from folks there protesting, and in the time since, we've befriended a lot of folks from all over the state who have tuned to the show to hear our coverage and show their support for our support of the movement. Some are even saying that there is a severe lack of the kind of coverage we gave Moral Monday last week elsewhere in the state and media. (maybe that's why the facebook page numbers jumped to a whopping 2000 people to 5300 people in a matter of days. So - keep on checking in and sharing!)
Now, there is some buzz here about 880 The Revolution finding a way to send me to the Moral Mondays down the road and broadcast an entire show live from right there. I am excited at the prospect and can't wait!
