A lot of talk circling the drain today on the immigration issue, and the one glaring thing that stands out to me is how the only solutions that the right wing folks out there seem to want to employ are the ones that are sensationalistic, but lack any chance of doing anything to fix the actual problem.
Build a fence! Deport them all!
All the solutions focus the blame squarely upon the illegal immigrants themselves. None of the solutions focus on the people who employee them and inspire them to maintain their illegal status.
You see, the solution is quite simple. Stop the people who hire the illegal folk, from being able to do so, make the penality for doing so, outrageously costly, and throw in some major public shaming on top.
Right? No jobs, no one willing to risk hiring the illegal folks, and pretty soon the illegal folks will realize that it is not a good place to come and seek employment. And the problem will slow to a crawl.
Mind you, immigration is pretty much under the best control it has been in decades, these past 5 or so years, but the right wing people scream as if the flow of immigrants looks like that movie trailer for World War Z and the swarming Zombies.
A second solution would be to mandate a minimum wage along the lines of what has been proposed to have wages rise with the rate of growth. Better pay for the legal workers here, will increase productivity and lead to further success. Just ask the CEO of COSTCO.
Building a fence, or imposing a new level of government (which the righties say they are against) to round up and mass deport, are not solutions. They are propoganda to cover for the Republican business types who profit from cheap and illegal labor.
Cheap and illegal labor is the crack to the Capitalism addicts in this country. They can't kick the habit, and no politicians have the spine to actually look for solutions. They prefer to demonize and pass blame.
