Well, it is April 15. The Ides of April. The day Abe Lincoln died of his gunshot wound to the head. The day Jackie Robinson broke the race barrier in Baseball. The day the Titanic sank and that poor fictional character played by Leo DeCaprio died (not to mention a ton of real people!). Greta Garbo and Pol Pot both died this day too (unrelated). And, of course, the internet is ablaze with declarations that it is un-Constitutional to pay Income Taxes!
Yes, it's tax day. The day that leads most people to get refund checks from the Federal and State Governments, and many people write checks to pay taxes that went unpaid in the last year.
Among the more laughable things we see on days like to day, via social media:
The Ron Paulians out there complain that taxes are illegal, and we should start a revoltion to stop paying them.
Rightwingers complain about how much the President pays in taxes (18% and change), as if he actually controls that, despite his intentions to reform the tax rate.
Really unstable righties will declare that the to 1% are paying 40% of the taxes that keep this country breathing, and should be lauded for such divine sacrifice.
