Hard to believe that, until just the past few days, the IRS has been a beloved, revered and flawless organization that all American's honored, respected and loved.
Since when? For as long as I recall, the IRS was viewed as one of the big Government evils, especially by far Rightwing nuts, many of whom declare that income taxes are illegal and unconstitutional. And these same folks seem shocked - SHOCKED, I SAY! - that their anti-IRS views have landed them on a higher scrutiny list.
Anything that looks like a "blame Obama" opportunity, and the far Right begin to pile on. Despite all sorts of uncomfortable truths.
The biggest tidbit, of course, is that the man being grilled today, Steven Miller (acting head of the IRS), was a temp on his job, appointed in 2012. Who did he replace? A George W Bush appointee, who ran the IRS until that point. What makes this important? Well, how about the fact that the claims being made are about groups who filed with the IRS for tax-exempt status before Miller took the helm from the W dude.
Also, not being mentioned in the entire conversation, is whether or not the extra scrutiny actually caught people trying to get away with violations. No, no. It seems that the IRS is the only one on trial here, and no one cares if they were able to nab corrupt attempts at fraud.
You can add to that, all of the past times when left-leaning groups have been under higher scrutiny by the IRS
As things unfold, it is abundantly clear that this, like Benghazi before it, is another inflated attack from the right in hopes of nailing Obama with a scandal. Yet, to make their narrative work, they are having to leave out important details.
Funny that they are crying to full disclosures and truths, while not being interested in anything that deflates their flatulant arguments.
